A Tanzanian female passenger who was waiting at the Katunayake International Airport from Dubai to fly to Malaysia gave birth to a baby boy this morning (05) inside the airport premises.
The 29-year-old woman arrived in Katunayake from Dubai at around 06.30 this morning on Fitz Air flight 8D-822. She went into labour while waiting at the immigration terminal to depart for Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
She was immediately referred to the airport medical centre and gave birth to a baby boy.
With the intervention and assistance of the doctors and nurses at the medical center, the mother and the newborn baby have been admitted to the Negombo General Hospital for further treatment and observation.
