Statement on the allegation against the Chairman of the Bribery Commission

The Bribery Commission has issued a statement regarding the complaint received by the Bribery Commission regarding an incident in which the current Director General of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption, Ranga Dissanayake, allegedly admitted his child to a leading Colombo college in 2014 in an irregular manner.

In this regard, the Commission has indicated that a preliminary investigation was conducted under Section 42 (1) of the Prevention of Corruption Act as directed by the Chairman of the Commission and its three members.

The Bribery Commission has stated in its statement that since it was a complaint against the Director General of the Bribery Commission, this complaint was given priority and investigated expeditiously.

Accordingly, reports were called from the Judicial Service Commission and the college in Colombo during the relevant investigation and it was observed that the child in question had been admitted to the school on the guidelines of the Ministry of Education in accordance with the Supreme Court decision No. SCFR 235/2011 regarding the admission of children of judicial officers to schools.

Furthermore, the Bribery Commission has stated in its statement that it was observed that not only this child but also other children of judicial officers had been admitted to the Royal College, Colombo on the above guidelines of the Ministry of Education in that year.

Accordingly, the Commission has determined that there was no irregularity in institutional procedures, biased or illegal act or political interference in the process of admitting this child to the school, the statement issued by the Bribery Commission further states.
