Deputy Minister Ratna Gamage says that there is no need for Provincial Councils in the country at this time.
“Provincial Councils! Do we need one? No. There is a President. There is a Cabinet. There is a Parliament. There are Pradeshiya Sabhas. There is no need for Provincial Councils. Let it go.” He said. The Deputy Minister said this in response to a question raised by the media.
The term of office of Provincial Councils is 5 years, and due to the non-holding of elections, those terms of office ended. Accordingly, the term of office of all Provincial Councils in Sri Lanka ended by 2018.
