SriLankan Air needs urgent resolution to restore its operational viability and resolve its debt crisis, says Evan Papageorgiou, the International Monetary Fund’s country manager for Sri Lanka.
The 2025 budget has allocated Rs. 20 billion to settle the airline’s debt, and a financial advisor has been hired to restructure its international operations. These actions are helping to steer the airline in the right direction, Evan Papageorgiou added.
But he says urgent efforts are needed to resolve the outstanding issues.
