Sri Lanka’s preparations are boosted after encountering a monkeypox victim in India.

Sri Lanka’s health authorities are further increasing their vigilance after a suspected monkeypox virus infection was reported from India.

According to India’s Ministry of Health, the man had recently traveled from a country affected by the outbreak of the virus. Currently, he is isolated in a hospital and is in a stable condition, Indian health authorities say.

The ministry did not specify which strain of the mpox virus the patient may have, but tests are being conducted to confirm the infection.

The clade 1b strain of mpox has gained global attention because it seems to spread more easily through normal close contact.

The World Health Organization (WHO) recently declared the infectious disease a public health emergency of international concern.
