Sri Lanka’s first sub female infertility unit inaugurated

A female infertility unit has been established at the German-Sri Lanka Friendship Women’s Hospital in Karapitiya for the first time in Sri Lanka.

The ceremony was held yesterday and Gynecologist Dr. Deepani Jasinghe, who attended the event, said that this new unit at the hospital will provide immense benefits to women in the Southern Province and several other areas. She said that it is the first female infertility unit in Sri Lanka.

A Gynecological Oncology Surgical Unit built under this program was also inaugurated yesterday and
Specialist Dr. Kelum Jayasinghe is in charge of the unit.

He said that with the current facilities, a maximum of 15 gynecological surgeries can be performed per day and this can be increased to a large extent after the opening of the new surgical unit. He said that about 100 patients from the Southern Province and Sabaragamuwa and Uva Provinces receive treatment at the Gynecological Oncology Unit almost every day.
