Sri Lanka Cricket strongly denies the statement made in Parliament by Samagi Jana Balawegaya MP Hesha Withanage that former IGP Deshabandhu Tennakoon was paid a salary of Rs. 150,000 and was provided with a laptop, mobile phone and other benefits.
In a statement, Sri Lanka Cricket said that it has never paid Deshabandhu Tennakoon any money or provided any privileges. Sri Lanka Cricket stresses that it is committed to security arrangements for international cricket events and regularly liaises with security officials, including senior police officers, to ensure security.
Sri Lanka Cricket said in a statement that Mr. Tennakoon’s expertise was sought during his tenure as the Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) of the Western Province, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic, regarding security for international cricket tours.
Sri Lanka Cricket rejects the allegations made by MP Hesha Withanage and urges him to exercise strict responsibility in his public statements.
