Sports Minister Roshan Ranasinghe has expressed his objection regarding the lifting of the cricket ban imposed by the Sri Lankan Cricket on cricketer Dhanushka Gunathila. He says that lifting the ban of Dhanushka Gunathilaka is an illegal act.
He further to says that this ban was implemented with the instructions of the Attorney General through reporting the facts to the court and therefore, his opinion that in order to remove the ban, we should discuss with the Attorney General again. Also, the Minister said that the Attorney General’s advice should have been sought before lifting Dhanushka Gunathilaka’s ban as the case related to this incident is still before the court.
Dhanushka Gunathilaka was arrested by the police on charges of rape during the 2022 World Twenty20 cricket tournament in Australia, and after a long trial, the court acquitted him.
