Somavathi should be approached with caution

The Department of Irrigation has announced that there is a risk of flooding in several areas around the Mahaweli River basin within the next 48 hours.

Due to the rainfall received in some parts of the Mahaweli River since last night (25), the risk of flooding has arisen in the low-lying areas along the Mahaweli River belonging to the Kinniya, Muthur, Kantale, Seruvila, Welikanda, Medirigiriya, Lankapura, Namankaduwa and Dimbulagala Divisional Secretariat Divisions of the Mahaweli River Basin.

Furthermore, the Irrigation Department informs devotees traveling to the Somawathi Rajamaha Viharaya to be very vigilant for the next few days as there is a risk of flooding on the Batticaloa-Polonnaruwa road from the Gallella area, the Somawathi Rajamaha Viharaya entrance road, and the area surrounding the Somawathi Rajamaha Viharaya.
