The Consumer Affairs Authority is working to strictly enforce the laws regarding the manufacture, import and sale of substandard motorcycle helmets.
Accordingly, the Consumer Affairs Authority has stated on its official Facebook account that the manufacture, import, distribution, storage, display and sale of helmets without the SLS logo are completely illegal.
According to Order 59 of the Extraordinary Gazette No. 1923/65 dated July 16, 2015, it has been made mandatory for all motorcycle helmets used in Sri Lanka to have the SLS certification logo with the SLS 517 standard.
In 98 special raids conducted across the island on the 27th, the Consumer Affairs Authority has taken into its custody over 431 helmets without the SLS logo. In addition, the sale of 3250 helmets manufactured during the period without renewing the SLS license obtained for the production of safety helmets has also been banned.
The Consumer Affairs Authority requests that before purchasing a motorcycle helmet, check whether it has the SLS logo and if you have any information about individuals and institutions manufacturing or selling substandard helmets, please inform the short number 1977 during office hours.
