S.M. Ranjith and his personal secretary sentenced to 16 years in prison

Former North Central Chief Minister S.M. Ranjith and his personal secretary, Shanthi Chandrasena, wife of former Minister S.M. Chandrasena, have been sentenced to 16 years in prison each.

The Colombo High Court sentenced them to 16 years in prison each for corruption charges filed by the Bribery Commission.

S.M. Ranjith was accused of corruption by illegally receiving Rs. 2,080,500 as fuel allowances during his tenure as Chief Minister.
