Former Member of Parliament Rohitha Abeygunawardena said that the duty of a political leader is to promote religious harmony and he is happy to fulfill that duty.
He said this while addressing a public meeting held in Kalutara yesterday (10).
He emphasized that no matter what situation he is in, he will not leave politics out of frustration.
“There was no position in front of my name in history… It was the people of Kalutara district who made me an undefeated member of parliament who has not been defeated in any election in 27 years.
Everyone here knows very well that Rohitha will not become a minister by voting the cylinder and voting the number. We will not form a government. Even if a minister is not formed, even if a government is not formed, these people are here to pay their gratitute to Rohitha.
I know how to stand with people. Even if I am with you as an opposition member, I am giving you a strong message that I will stand for you to protect you when ever you need.I held public meetings for 27 years. “I have never asked a single person whether you voted for me or worked for me….A politician needs the public. I am earning the public, not the money . I have faith that you will send me to parliament to serve for another five years and make twenty-seven years, thirty-two years…” he said.
