”Rilawa” is the number one animal dameged in Sri Lanka’s plantations. Last year, 200 million coconuts were eaten.

The Hector Kobbekaduwa Agricultural Research and Training Institute has revealed that 200 million coconuts were destroyed in the last year alone in the coconut triangle.

In addition, in the first quarter of this year, 320 complaints have been received regarding crop damage caused by wild animals, according to a report issued by the agency.

This report has been issued based on a notice given by the Minister of Agriculture, Mahinda Amaraweera, to the agency to provide a report regarding crop damage caused by wild animals this year.

According to the report, it appears that the most crop damage has been caused by snakes. Other animals that cause damage to crops include pigs, peacocks, wasps, and vaduras, respectively.

The Hector Kobbekaduwa Agricultural Research and Training Institute conducted a comprehensive investigation regarding crop damage in 464 agricultural public service domains last year, following the request of the Ministry of Agriculture to prevent crop damage caused by wild animals.

According to that report, it was confirmed that the animal that causes the most damage to crops in Sri Lanka is the wild boar.
