Resolution to transfer Katchatheevu Island to India passed.

The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam party in Thamilnadu has passed a resolution demanding that Katchatheevu Island, which belongs to Sri Lanka, be returned to India.

The resolution states that in order to achieve a permanent solution to the fishing issue between India and Sri Lanka, Katchatheevu Island should be transferred to India. Indian media reports that the party working committee, headed by the party leader and Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, unanimously passed this resolution.

It has also been decided to forward the resolution to the Indian central government.

Katchatheevu Island, which was in India’s possession, was handed over to Sri Lanka in 1974 by the then Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
