Rajitha’s revision petition to be heard again on the 10th

The Colombo High Court today decided to hear the revision petition filed by former Minister Rajitha Senaratne seeking to revise and cancel the warrant issued against him by the Colombo Magistrate’s Court for his arrest.

Accordingly, the Magistrate’s Court today ordered that notices be issued to the respondents in the petition, including the Director General of the Bribery Commission.

President’s Counsel Kalinga Indatissa, appearing for Rajitha Senaratne, stated that his client will appear before the Colombo Magistrate’s Court tomorrow (29) and requested that an interim injunction be issued temporarily suspending the warrant issued for his arrest. However, the Colombo High Court Judge, who did not issue an order in this regard, stated that only notices will be issued to the respondents.

When the revision petition was called for consideration, President’s Counsel Kalinga Indatissa, who appeared for the petitioner Rajitha Senaratne, stated before the court that the Bribery Commission had initiated an investigation based on an anonymous complaint received in 2013 alleging that the vessel “Weligowwa” belonging to the Fisheries Harbours Corporation was misused.

The case is scheduled to be taken up again on September 10.
