A statement issued early this morning (25) by the Department of Meteorology indicates that the deep depression previously located over the Bay of Bengal is weakening into a depression. Consequently, a reduction in the prevailing rainy weather conditions is expected.
The statement further notes the following:
Showers or thundershowers will occur intermittently in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, Central, and North-Western provinces. Fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 75mm is possible in some areas.
Fairly strong winds of approximately 30–40 km/h may occur intermittently over the western slopes of the central hills, the North-Central and North-Western provinces, and the Trincomalee, Hambantota, and Matale districts.
The Department of Meteorology urges the public to take necessary precautions to minimize hazards caused by lightning and temporary strong winds associated with thundershowers.
