Former Minister and veteran left-wing politician Professor Tissa Vitarana has passed away, family sources say. He was 92 years old at the time of his death.
A senior figure in the left-wing political movement in Sri Lanka, he was still serving as the General Secretary of the Lanka Sama Samaja Party at the time of his death. He held several ministerial positions on several occasions and was known for his contributions to constitutional reform efforts and national reconciliation programs.
A long-time leader of the Lanka Sama Samaja Party, he was appointed Minister of Science and Technology and later played a prominent role in efforts aimed at addressing ethnic tensions through political dialogue.
