The Department of Labor has decided to increase the minimum monthly wage payable to private sector employees to Rs. 30,000 with effect from January 1, 2026.
The Commissioner General of Labor, H.M.D.N.K. Wataliyadda, in a statement, stated that the minimum monthly wage, which was previously Rs. 27,000, has been increased by Rs. 3,000.
The statement stated that this salary increase was made in accordance with the provisions of the National Minimum Wage of Employees Amendment Act, No. 11 of 2025.
