The Colombo Magistrate’s Court has ordered the remand of former Prison Health Services Deputy Director Dr. Hemantha Ranasinghe, who was arrested in connection with a bribery incident, until the 19th.
Colombo Additional Magistrate Manjula Ratnayake issued this order after considering the arguments presented by the Bribery Commission and the defense lawyers.
In 2024, a prisoner was treated as a resident at the Prison Hospital due to a medical condition. Subsequently, he was arrested by officers of the Bribery Commission this morning in connection with an incident in which he demanded a bribe of 1,500,000 rupees in order to continue keeping the patient there and receiving treatment, and received a bribe of 300,000 rupees.
