President Anura Kumara Dissanayake says that he is ready to take steps for the release of Tamil political prisoners.
Addressing a public rally organized by the National People’s power in Vavuniya yesterday (10), the President further said that the government has also taken into consideration the reassignment of the lands of the Tamil people in the north.
“Our country is divided in all respects. But our country cannot move forward divided like this. Our main hope is to end all these divisions. What needs to happen to add? One movement should be formed with Sinhala, Tamil, Muslim people and leaders. That movement is the National People’s Force.
There was a lack of our activity among the Tamil speaking people. Therefore, those people chose the old parties. But what happened on Sep. 21? The NPP won and created confidence in those people. I think the people of the north were the most excited by that victory. They started to wake up. So much so that people from other parties have also been told that they will go to the government after winning. All we have to say now is that we missed the bus and it’s late.”
