The motion made by opposition MPs to summon President Anura Dissanayake, who was the Minister in charge of the subject, as a witness to the parliamentary committee appointed to submit observations regarding the release of 323 containers without physical inspection, has been defeated by a parliamentary committee vote.
Speaking to the media on this matter, S.J.B. MP Mujibur Rahman said that the opposition had demanded that President Anura Dissanayake, the Minister in charge of the ports, Bimal Ratnayake, the Deputy Minister in charge of the subject, Janith Ruwan Kodithuwakku, and the Secretary to the Ministry should also be summoned before this committee and questioned for evidence.
Although the motion was submitted in writing, it was defeated by a committee vote, said MP Mujibur Rahman.
