Prescriptions for medicines not available in hospitals have become a problem. GMOA.

The Secretary of the Government Medical Officers’ Association, Dr. Prabath Sugathadasa, says that the legal issues arising from the lack of guidance given to doctors when ordering them to obtain medicines and surgical equipment not available in the hospital system from outside are causing inconvenience to doctors, including specialists.

He said this at a media briefing held in Anuradhapura.

The shortage of doctors, including specialists, has severely affected all hospitals in the district, including the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital. Similarly, a committee has been formed regarding the problems existing in the health system and a report will be submitted to the Atamasthanadhipathi Thero to inform the current government including the health authorities, he added.

He stated that doctors, including specialists, are facing difficulties due to legal issues arising from the lack of necessary guidance when ordering doctors to procure medicines and surgical equipment that are not available in the hospital system from outside.
