Police constable receives warm welcome from public

The police constable who was remanded in custody on charges of assaulting a lawyer at the Mount Lavinia Magistrate’s Court premises was released on bail today. After being released on bail by the Mount Lavinia Court, he was warmly welcomed by a large crowd outside the court.

As the police officer who was released on bail came out, the crowd that welcomed him gave him a bouquet of flowers and carried him out of the court premises.

A huge crowd consisting of police officers and the general public could be seen arriving to welcome him. Speaking at the event, the Executive Director of the International Institute for Human Rights, Subhasana Subhawickrama, said that his organization will continue to stand up for the rights of this police officer in the future.
