Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama ordered today (17) that Renuka Perera, the former Chairman of the National Transport Commission, be remanded until September 29.
He was remanded after being produced before the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court following his arrest by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption in connection with the illegal issuance of 56 passenger transport permits for the Southern Expressway.
The Bribery Commission informed the court that investigations revealed that, out of the illegally issued permits, 30 had been allocated to the suspect’s committee, while the remaining 26 were distributed at his own discretion to individuals of his choice.
Renuka Perera, who has been remanded, is a senior active member of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP). The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption is conducting further investigations.
