Piumi to be indicted for tax evasion

The Inland Revenue Department informed Colombo Additional Magistrate Pasan Amarasena yesterday (July 31) that it will take steps to file indictments against Piumi Hansamali before the Colombo High Court for evading tax payments to the government.

Senior Counsel Dinesh Perera, appearing for the Inland Revenue Commissioner, told the court that the investigation reports against her have been submitted to the Attorney General and accordingly, it is expected to file indictments against the two before the Colombo High Court in the future.

Piumi Hansamali will be charged with evading personal income tax of Rs. 194 million and evading income tax of Rs. 95 million for the years 2022 and 2023.
