Part of the million dollar loan owed to Iran will be paid off.

It is reported that Sri Lanka has paid 35 million dollars of the 250 million dollars owed to Iran for the oil purchased in 2012.

Due to sanctions imposed on Iran, Sri Lanka could not pay this amount. Later, the government decided to settle this amount through, giving tea for oil.

The oil-for-tea deal was agreed in December 2021, but the economic crisis made it difficult to implement.

However, it is reported that 35 million dollars have been paid and another 10 million dollars will be settled soon.
