Anuradhapura Chief Magistrate Siyapath Sasindu Wickramaratne yesterday (12) ordered former Atamasthanadhipathi Pallegama Hemarathana Thero, a suspect in an alleged case of molestation of a minor girl, to provide blood samples for DNA testing.
The Magistrate has ordered the suspect to go to the Government Analyst’s Department on June 16 and provide his blood samples to the Government Analyst.
The Magistrate made this order after considering a presentation made by the Nittambuwa Police.
The Nittambuwa Police informed the court that, pursuant to a court order, the clothes suspected of being stained with blood, which were found buried and hidden by the victim girl on May 4, 2026, were forwarded to the Government Analyst for DNA testing.
The Government Analyst conducted a DNA test on the clothes and confirmed that the girl’s clothes “contain DNA alleles.” The report further states that DNA samples from the suspect’s owners should be obtained to match those DNA alleles, Nittambuwa Police told the court.
