One health center for every 10,000 of the population.

The government expects to establish one primary health care center to cover approximately 10,000 of the country’s population. Accordingly, the Ministry of Health and Mass Media says that 2000 centers are to be established islandwide in the next 03 years under the first phase.

It is planned to establish 100 primary health care centers this year to mark the beginning of the program. A staff of eight people is to be assigned to these health care centers.

The aim is to maintain primary health care in the country as a more quality and efficient service in the future and it is proposed to establish these primary health care centers (Primary Care Community Centers) to cover the entire island. A workshop was recently held to educate Public Health Nursing Officers (PHNOs) about this project.
