Northeast Monsoon to become active. Rains to increase in the next two weeks .

The Department of Meteorology says that Sri Lanka will receive rains this month as the Northeast Monsoon is active.

Director of the Department, Meryl Mendis, told the media that rains will begin to fall in Sri Lanka from the second week of December, and the monsoon will become more active during that period.

“Sri Lanka is currently in the monsoon season, so we expect the Northeast Monsoon to become more active during the second week of December,” he said.

He said that the northern and eastern provinces are likely to be affected by the Northeast Monsoon that falls towards the end of the year. However, he noted that there is no possibility of another low-pressure system or cyclone developing.
