The latest weather bulletin issued by the Meteorological Department this morning (05) states that the Northeast Monsoon is establishing itself over the island.
Accordingly, several spells of showers are likely to occur in the Northern, North-Central, Eastern and Uva provinces and the Matale district today, the bulletin states.
Showers or thundershowers are possible in the rest of the island after about 1 pm.
Some places in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in the Galle and Matara districts. Moderately heavy showers exceeding 75 mm are possible. There is foggy condition in some places in the Western, Central, Sabaragamuwa, Uva and North-Central provinces and in the Kurunegala district during the early hours.
The Department of Meteorology urges the public to take necessary steps to minimize the dangers caused by temporary strong winds and lightning that may occur with thunderstorms.
