No more donations to hospitals based on personal preferences

Health and Mass Media Minister Nalinda Jayatissa says that more money is allocated from the treasury for health every year than the money given by the gods of Kataragama. He also said that from now on, it is not possible to help a hospital based on political interests or a thought that arises in the mind.

The Minister said this while participating in the opening of the Bone Marrow and Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplant Unit built at the Maharagama Apeksha Hospital with the financial support of the Ruhuna Kataragama Devalaya.

Expressing further views, the Minister said, “The Ministry of Health is usually a place where any government gives money if it asks for it. More money is allocated from the treasury every year more than the all gods given . The highest amount allocated for the Ministry of Health in history is being allocated in this budget.

The Ministry of Health receives support from local philanthropists and from foreign and international institutions through our ministry at certain times. What we are prepared to do is to take steps to deploy all these provisions in a systematic and planned manner.

From now on, we cannot help anyone based on political expediency or the sentimental thoughts that arise in their minds after seeing a hospital. We will carry out these development activities according to a national plan, considering the next 20 years.”
