A tragic incident is reported from Bandaragama where a nursing officer from the National Hospital of Colombo lost her life after being run over by the very bus she had used to commute to work for 14 years—while her husband watched from right in front of their home.
The deceased was a 59-year-old mother of three, a nurse at the National Hospital and a resident of the Galthuda area on Kalutara Road, Bandaragama. The accident occurred in the early hours of yesterday (10).
Bandaragama Police stated that the accident happened when the nurse attempted to cross the road to board the bus she used for work as soon as it arrived.
Following the accident, she was admitted to the Bandaragama District Hospital and subsequently transferred to Panadura Base Hospital for further treatment, where she passed away. The driver of the bus involved in the accident was arrested, produced before the Panadura Magistrate’s Court, and subsequently released on bail. The Bandaragama Police are conducting further investigations.
