More than 500 killed in Iran protests

Foreign media reports that the death toll from two weeks of protests and ongoing public protests in Iran for social reforms has exceeded 500.

The reports confirm that 490 of the dead are protesters, and 48 security personnel are among the dead.

Some hospitals are now overwhelmed with the dead or injured, making it difficult to provide even basic treatment to the injured. The reports also state that the morgues of some hospitals are now full.

The BBC, citing hospital sources in Tehran, says that most of those brought to hospitals are young men between the ages of 20 and 25, and most of them were shot in the head or chest.

The government’s internet blackout, which was launched to control the spread of the protests, continues, and it is reported that the flow of information from the country has been somewhat disrupted.

Meanwhile, in response to US President Donald Trump’s statement on his Twitter account that “the US is ready to help the popular protests in Iran”, Iran says that if the US attacks Iran, it will retaliate against Israel and American bases.
