Minister Nalinda Jayatissa to train journalists.

The government is identifying the problems of provincial journalists and is taking steps to provide them with the necessary facilities to engage more actively in the media profession and to organize a series of residential and short-term training programs to develop their professional skills, said Minister of Health and Mass Media Nalinda Jayatissa.

He made these comments while participating in a discussion held with representatives of the Colombo Journalists Association at the Health Ministry premises.

The Colombo Journalists Association presented a memorandum containing 11 demands on behalf of all local journalists in the country to the Minister, and the Minister engaged in a lengthy discussion with officials of the Ministry of Mass Media regarding the matters included in the memorandum.

Here, the Minister instructed the officials to provide immediate solutions to several issues and informed the representatives of the Colombo Journalists Association that he would take steps to fulfill several other requests.

Here, the Minister focused his attention on re-establishing an insurance scheme for regional journalists and instructed the officials to prepare a formal plan for that.
