Minister of Power and Energy Kanchana Wijesekera said that it has been decided to suspend the licenses of 40 filling stations that sold fuel in excess of the QR quota of national fuel permits.
According to the report, this decision was reached at the progress review meeting held this morning with the management and officials of Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) and Ceylon Petroleum Storage Terminals Limited (CPSTL) with the participation of the Minister.
In that meeting, it has been decided that all petrol stations should maintain stock at least 50% of their tank capacity, and to facilitate the regulation of fuel bowers, the corporation will install GPS tracking systems for all bowers by April 15.
In the second phase, the installation of GPS tracking systems for private tanks will also be started, the minister said.
