The wild elephant ‘Kandalame hedakaraya’,( smart elephant of kandalama) who had been receiving treatment at the Kandalama Reservoir for over 6 months, has died this afternoon (13).
This beautiful elephant, aged between 25-30, was critically injured after being shot in the front leg.This wild elephant has been shot on several occasions as a result of human-elephant conflict.
About a year ago, it was shot again after being treated and released into the wild.
