Japan starts giving aid to Sri Lanka again.

The Government of Japan has decided to extend its cooperation to provide immediate humanitarian grants to communities devastated by the current economic crisis in Sri Lanka and to empower the public sector to boost the country’s economic situation.

Accordingly, President Ranil Wickremesinghe as the Minister of Economic Stabilization and National Policy to sign agreements with the Government of Japan to obtain a grant of 1.6 billion yen (approximately 3.3 billion rupees) under the Japan Economic and Social Development Program for the implementation of several social welfare projects. Board approved.

Accordingly, the following projects are to be implemented under the Japanese Economic and Social Development Program.

• Sri Lanka Coast Guard Oil Spill Response and Management Improvement Project

• The project to provide support equipment for maternal and child care in the main hospitals in the Northern Province and the project to distribute support equipment for the garment courses in the vocational training centers in the Northern Province.

• Project to provide support equipment for the safety of fishermen in the Northern and Eastern Provinces
