Police investigations have started regarding the arrest of five people from the Veddha community and a foreigner who killed a peacock and burned and ate its meat in the Maduruoya National Park.
These investigations have started according to a notice given to the Mahiyangana Magistrate’s Court by W.M. Kumarasiri Wijekoon, Wildlife Ranger of Henanigala Region.
A related video has been released on social media and it has been viewed more than 8 million times. The video shows how the Veddha people kill peacocks, roast the meat and eat it with bee honey.
The incident, which reportedly took place in 2019 or 2020, came out recently due to videos shared on social media.
