India has extended the ban on LTTE for another five years.In a statement, the Ministry of Home Affairs of India said that the Central Government is of the opinion that the LTTE is still engaged in activities that are detrimental to the integrity and security of the country.
It states that even after the military defeat of the LTTE in Sri Lanka in May 2009, they have not given up on the concept of ‘Eelam’ (an independent country for the Tamil people) and are continuing to raise funds and secretly work for the cause of ‘Eelam’. .
Propaganda activities and efforts to regroup the remaining LTTE leaders or scattered activists and revive the organization locally and internationally have also been initiated, the statement said.
