It is reported that former Member of Parliament Hirunika Premachandra, who was sentenced to three years of hard labor by the Colombo High Court, is currently in the general wards of the women’s section of the Welikada Prison.
She now wears the uniform of an inmate and has been given a prisoner number instead of a name.
The prison commissioner further said that she has not made a special request so far and therefore there is no need to refer her to a special ward. But it is reported that her lawyers are preparing to file an appeal against the High Court judgment.
