Here is what is going to be done to attract tourists to the four main cities.

The government has planned to brand four major cities in the country to attract foreign tourists.

According to a concept of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, the cities of Kandy, Colombo, Anuradhapura and Kataragama will be branded and this city branding will be carried out under the supervision of the Ministry of Transport, Highways and Urban Development and the Urban Development Authority, said Anura Medawala, Director of the Central Province of the Authority.

A preliminary discussion on the branding of Kandy city in parallel with the city branding was held at the Central Province Governor’s Office of the Central Province, Professor S.B.S. Abhayakone, where the Provincial Director made this statement.

He pointed out that some cities in various countries of the world are currently branded in this way, and that such countries have been branded according to the popularity of their respective sectors such as culture, history, economy, food, nature, tourism industry, etc., and that the proposed cities in Sri Lanka have also become prominent in such sectors.

Pointing out that tourists are more inclined to visit such countries, he said that Sri Lanka can also be turned into a tourist paradise by developing cities in this country and providing facilities.

Mayor of Kandy Chandrasiri Wijenayake, Chief Secretary of the Central Province Ajith Premasinghe, Additional District Secretary of Kandy Lalith Atampawala, Kandy Municipal Commissioner Indika Abeysinghe, Managing Director of the Kandy Branding Project Utpala Uyanwatte and a group of others participated in this event.
