Here is the reason for the increase in accidents on the expressway

The fact that only one service center has been established on the 254-kilometer expressway from Katunayake to Mattala has been identified as a reason for the increase in accidents. Even though drivers get tired from driving continuously, the only place to rest on the expressway is the Welipenna service center.

The Accident Prevention and Control Division states that the lack of a place for drivers to rest has become a serious issue and it is more important to establish a rest area at least every 50 kilometers. Accordingly, the organization indicates that government-maintained rest areas should be established not only on expressways but also on other roads.

It has been revealed that there are not only problems with traffic on the expressway, but also personal problems and problems with drivers, and drowsiness, fatigue, foggy conditions on the road and other external factors are other difficulties faced by drivers.

The Accident Prevention and Control Division of the Non-Communicable Diseases Unit states that relevant proposals have been submitted to the Technical Committee on Road Accidents of the Ministry of Health.
