The bus fare payment service through bank cards was launched this morning (24) at the Makumbura Multimodal Transport Center under the patronage of the Minister of Transport, Highways and Urban Development Bimal Ratnayake.
Starting the program, the bus fare payment service through bank cards was introduced today for the Makumbura – Matara, Makumbura – Galle, Makumbura – Badulla, Colombo – Ampara expressway buses.
Minister Bimal Ratnayake said that in parallel with this program, the Western Road Passenger Transport Authority has initiated the process of paying bus fares through bank cards for buses running between Borella – Kadawatha and the Uva Provincial Road Passenger Transport Authority between Badulla – Bandarawela, Dambulla – Mahiyanganaya, Monaragala – Bibila and Monaragala – Wellawaya.
Also, this process is scheduled to begin tomorrow (25) for buses running between Colombo – Vavuniya, Kadawatha Maharagama, Makumbura – Tangalle and Makumbura – Angunukolapelessa.
Meanwhile, it is reported that the Western Provincial Road Passenger Transport Authority has initiated the program of paying bus fares through bank cards in parallel with this today.
Commenting on this, Chairman of the Western Province Road Passenger Transport Authority, Retired Commander Gamini Jasinghe said that according to this process, it is planned to implement it for all express buses operating in the Western Province by the coming December.
He said that the process will be initiated in December and then by the end of the coming year 2026, the bus fare payment service will be started for all buses in the Western Province through bank cards.
