The Meteorological Department has issued a weather advisory for today (07) this morning. According to the advisory, the northeast monsoon is gradually establishing over the island.
The Meteorological Department says that several spells of rain are likely to occur in the Northern, North-Central, Eastern Uva provinces and Matale and Nuwara Eliya districts, and that showers or thundershowers will occur in the rest of the island after 1.00 pm.
Some places in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in the Galle and Matara districts. Moderately heavy rains exceeding 50 mm are likely to occur.
The Meteorological Department also says that foggy conditions are likely to prevail in some places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and Uva provinces during the morning.
The Department of Meteorology has urged the public to take necessary measures to minimize the risks of temporary strong winds and lightning strikes that may occur with thunderstorms.
