Heat kills 11 people.

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said that eleven people who participated in the Bhushan Awards ceremony held in Maharashtra died due to heat stroke and around 30 others were hospitalized due to dehydration.

Weather reports confirm that the average temperature was over 38 degrees Celsius at the time of the award ceremony held at the open ground in Navi Mumbai. Tens of thousands of people participated in this event and foreign media reported that the people gathered outside without any cover were directly affected by the extreme temperature.

Opposition groups are criticizing the state government for choosing such a warm weather to hold such a ceremony. They say that the state government should take responsibility for the lives of the 11 dead.

Provincial Chief Minister Eknath Shinde visited the MGM Hospital and inquired after the recovery of the patients and termed this as an unfortunate and painful incident. He also announced that a compensation of 5 lakh rupees will be paid to the family members of the deceased.
