Hear the collapse of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya in the voice of Imthiyas

The Samagi Jana Balawegaya has recorded its weakest period in history in the past few months, says its chairman and former MP Imthiyas Baqir Marker.

He says that the Samagi Jana Balawegaya, which was created by facing various difficulties in the past, making many commitments and working hard, has declined significantly due to factors such as decision-making and non-decision-making, delays, discipline and not implementing the party machinery as a party.

He stated that although we hoped to create a new political force that the people could trust, different from the traditional political culture that Sri Lankans rejected, we failed to do so.

He further stated that justice should be done to all party members, including public representatives, organizers and activists, who dedicated their political lives to the Samagi Jana Balawegaya.

He pointed out that when Sri Lanka faced a severe economic crisis under the government of former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, despite good policies and a capable team, many did not trust the main opposition, the Samagi Jana Balawegaya, but placed their trust in a party that had only three seats.

He said that it should be his responsibility to maintain democracy and contribute to the prosperity of the people of the country, but the way he behaved in the past in fulfilling that responsibility was wrong.

He made these comments at the party’s first management committee after the presidential election in September 2024, and added:
