Alleging fraud or corruption against the current government ministers would be as difficult as landing on the moon, Minister of Health and Mass Media Nalinda Jayatissa said in Parliament today.
Participating in the debate on the import of substandard coal, the Minister emphasized, “If you want to accuse ministers of fraud and corruption in this government, you will have to build Artemis 3, go to the moon and come back.”
The Minister revealed that the government has taken strict action regarding the alleged quality changes in the supply of coal and accordingly has taken steps to collect a fine of 17 million dollars from the relevant companies.
He gave an assurance that there will be no increase in electricity bills for the people due to this situation.
The Minister pointed out that the current government is correcting the corrupt procurement process that has existed for 15 years, and stated that a full investigation will be conducted not only from now on but also into all 462 coal ships that have been brought into the country since 2010.
