Gamunu Wijeratne, President of the Lanka Private Bus Owners’ Association, stated that there is no legal provision to revise bus fares, even though fuel price hikes have driven up all operational costs.
He explained that a fare revision cannot be implemented at this time because the threshold required by the pricing formula triggered by fuel price increases has not reached the 4% mark.
Furthermore, he noted that the bus industry is currently operating at a loss, with daily losses amounting to Rs. 1,000 for short-distance services and Rs. 2,000 for long-distance services.
