Four children who were riding a canoe in Mangalpura Villuwa in the Bandaranayakepura area of the Wanathavilluwa Police Division drowned after the canoe overturned, Wanathavilluwa Police said.
Five children had gone to the reservoir to pick flowers on a canoe. All five children fell into the water when the canoe overturned, but one of them swam to safety.
The other four children drowned and their bodies have been deposited at the Puttalam Hospital morgue. The deceased children were aged between 15 and 16 and were residents of the Bandaranayakepura and Mangalpura areas. Further investigations are being conducted by the Wanathavilluwa Police.
