Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism Vijitha Herath said that the agreement related to the Hambantota Sinopec oil refinery project will be finalized in the first quarter of 2026.
The Minister is reported to have stated this during a discussion held today (12) with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, who is on a short visit to the country.
A statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism in this regard states that both sides also agreed to jointly celebrate the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 2027.
The Chinese Foreign Minister has said that the centuries-old goodwill between Sri Lanka and China and the long-standing friendship established after the establishment of diplomatic relations seven decades ago will be further strengthened under the leadership of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
